This sounds like an existential question, but it’s not quite that deep. I had a wave of nostalgia at the weekend pondering “What happened to MDM and is it still a thing?”. So I decided to look at search patterns over the 10 years for terms that were, or have become, common.
The source of the data is Google Trends and is based on searches within Australia from 2015 to 2025, The Y axis is the relative Interest, where 100 reflects the maximum interest in a particular topic.

Hot Topics
As you would imagine subjects like AI/ML, Generative AI, Data Security, BLOB Storage, and Large Language Models (LLMs) all remain hot topics and will no doubt remain so for the foreseeable future.
Steady Favourites
Favourites, that do not have the steam behind them of Cloud, AI or Security but remain of interest include Change Management, the role of the Chief Data Officer, Data Vault, Data Warehouse
Others
Others cover those topics that are showing a decline in popularity including MDM, TOGAF, ITIL, Big Data
